CROOK FISH AND CHIP SHOP CROWNED BEST IN COUNTY
A FISH and chip shop situated in Crook Town Centre and run by the fifth generation of the family
owned business has been named ‘Best in County Durham’.
Paula Stephenson owns and runs Stephenson’s Market Plaice in the town centre along with
husband, Graeme, son, Adam and 21-year-old Abbie Docherty. Born into the fish and chip trade that
four generations before her have owned and run, Paula insists on the traditional way of cooking and
serving the menu on offer.
And now, the family’s shop has been named the ‘Best Fish & Chip Shop’ at England’s Business
Awards at a ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Newcastle. They and their loyal band of regular
customers were delighted with the honour – it was a customer who out the business forward in the
first place – or should that be plaice?
Congratulations.
