METHODIST SPRING LECTURE
THE Spring Lecture of the North East Methodist History Society will be given by Rev. John Purdy
entitled “Methodism in Ireland”.
John Wesley made many visits to Ireland and established a network of congregations which
eventually formed The Methodist Church of Ireland which still operates today independent of the
British Methodist Church
The chair at this meeting will be taken by Rev. Christopher Humble who is the Chair of the Society
Rev. John Purdy is a minister of The Methodist Church of Ireland currently serving with the
British Methodist Church in the Sunderland Circuit. He has a particular interest in the churches’ role
in environment preservation and conservation
This presentation takes place at Houghton-le-Spring Methodist Church, DH4 4BH on Saturday 12 th .
April 2025 at 2.30pm. The meeting is open to members and non-members. Admission for non-
