WALKING WITH THE CROSS IN THE UPPER DALE
FOR many years, Christians in Weardale, have marked the most important festival on the Christian
calendar – Easter – with a special walk.
This year, Richard Walsh is leading the Walk with the Cross event, from Cowshill to St John’s
Chapel, as the attached poster.
However, he does need some volunteers to read the Good Friday Story from The Bible, and to
read some poetry at the four Moments to Reflect.
He said, “Whilst I hope the weather is suitable for walking though field paths, the Moments to
Reflect are all by roads, so even if you don’t fancy walking the three miles, you can still fully
participate.
“It would be nice to have as wide a cross section of the community as possible joining in the
readings, so if you’d like to volunteer, please email “
The walk will begin around 9:45am after the short service held at Heatherycleugh church at
Cowshill with the first ‘Moment to Reflect’ being held on Wearhead bridge. And so the walk, carrying
a large wooden cross, will continue through West Blackdene and on to a Moment at ‘Wesley’s Tree’
at Ireshopeburn and into St John’s Chapel before walkers can enjoy a hot cross bun in the Barrington
Hall there.
There is no need to book, simply turn up at any point along the way.
