NEIGHBOURS COMES TO WOLSINGHAM
THE popular Black Lion public house in Wolsingham is an old and well-established village pub.
Owned and run for 20 years by landlady, Sara-Jane Stobbs, it has seen some memorable moments
but few as exciting as the visit this last week by international actor and singer, Jason Donovan who
starred in the Australian soap, Neighbours, as the boyfriend of Kylie Minogue.
He was in the area because he is currently on tour and popped in for a drink at the ‘Lion’ to the
surprise of regulars and barmaid, Kerry Podmore. He was approachable and friendly and appeared
to enjoy the cosy atmosphere of this country inn with its famously warm welcome.
The visit was certainly a surprise but not for Sara-Jane because she was out and missed all of the
excitement!
The pub is popular with villagers and visitors and features in the CAMRA guide. It also serves
award-winning real cider. It’s opening hours are: Monday 4pm- 10pm, Tuesday 4pm – 11pm,
Wednesday 2pm – 11pm, Thursday 4pm 11pm, Friday and Saturday 2pm -11pm and Sunday 2pm-
9pm.
