County Durham Counselling Company Helps Young Racer Overcome Trackside Bullying
YOUNG karting sensation Thomas Potter, known as T.Pot in the racing world, has battled more than
just competitors on the track. The County Durham racer, whose story of trackside bullying went
viral, has shown remarkable resilience, thanks in part to the support of Durham City Counselling.
Now 13 years old, Thomas is looking ahead to his next challenge—moving from kart racing to car
racing—but needs help to make his dream a reality.
At just 10 years old, Thomas faced intense bullying in the competitive world of kart racing, which
led to a wave of public support when his story was aired. Determined not to let negativity define his
future, Thomas and his family turned to Deborah at Durham City Counselling for professional
support in managing the mental toll of bullying.
“Deborah has helped me stay strong and believe in myself, even when things were really tough,”
said Thomas. “Racing is my passion, and I want to prove that no one can push me out of the sport I
love.”
Durham City Counselling provided Thomas with strategies to rebuild his confidence and manage
the emotional challenges of high-pressure competition. His renewed focus and determination have
since driven him to further success on the track, reinforcing his reputation as a rising star in
motorsport.
In a powerful statement against bullying, Thomas took to the track at Warden Law Motorsports
Centre, near Houghton-le-Spring, with the names of people who had taken their own lives
emblazoned across his kart. This was both a defiant message to his tormentors and a heartfelt effort
to raise awareness of bullying, highlighting the devastating impact it can have on individuals and
their families.
Having now overcome bullying, Thomas has taken his experience and turned it into a mission to
help and support others facing similar struggles. Through his social media platforms and direct
outreach, he connects with people from around the world, offering encouragement and motivation
to those battling bullying and adversity in their own lives. His journey has inspired many, making him
not only a talented racer but also a powerful advocate for resilience and mental well-being.
Thomas is now focused on making the transition from karting to car racing, searching for
supporters who can help him take the next step in his career. Motorsport is an expensive pursuit,
and securing financial backing is crucial to his progression in the sport.
Thomas is also extremely active on social media, where he has built a strong following by sharing
his racing journey. His viral Instagram presence has gained national attention, with one of his posts
amassing an incredible 22 million views—beating Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton in the
Instagram stakes. This extraordinary reach makes him an attractive prospect for potential sponsors
looking to increase brand visibility in the motorsport community.
“We’re incredibly proud of how Thomas has handled such adversity,” said his family. “He’s
worked so hard to move forward and keep doing what he loves. Now, we’re looking for supporters
who can help him reach the next level and continue his racing journey.”
Partnership opportunities are now open for businesses and individuals who want to help a
young, determined, and talented racer with a growing following. By backing Thomas, sponsors will
gain visibility within the motorsport community while supporting an inspirational story of
perseverance and resilience.
