STANHOPE FOOTBALL By Dean Tinkler

Stanhope 7 Newton Aycliffe Roundhouse 4 League 23/2/25
ON a rainy, windy day at Bondisle Stadium we were looking to continue our impressive league
form with third place Aycliffe the visitors.
We started best and scored in the third minute when the ball fell kindly for George Lee to score.
Playing against the wind was difficult in the first half and the away side equalised not long after
when we failed to clear a corner and a strike from the edge of box found its way in the net.
They took the lead with a strike from distance and then stand in goalie Michael Donnelly made
a couple of decent saves, Before Lee scored his second with a tidy finish. We were soon 3-2 up
when Joseph Scott’s strike was deflected into the path of Lee who scored again to get his hat trick.
Before half time Aycliffe got their third with a brilliant free kick.
Into the Second half and we had the wind on our side now and we were soon ahead again with
the goal hungry Lee powering through their defence to score his fourth of the game. Charlie

Sanderson played Scott in down the left flank, where he carried it to the byline and scored from a
tight angle to finally get his first goal for the club.
The post denied what would of being an amazing goal from Issac Emerson after taking 3 or 4
defenders. Luckily for him, he did get his goal soon afterwards. Bobby Lumsdon then made it 7
with a cracking strike from 30 yards out.
There was another late consolation goal for the away team after a disastrous own goal by Dean
Tinkler.
