ANNUAL PRIZE EVENING AT ALSTON
SCHOOLS from Alston Moor Federation gathered on Wednesday evening for their annual Prize
Evening. The event was a celebration of the successes of the 2023-24 academic year.
The evening was well attended, with Guest Speaker Chris Lumsden (former professional football
player) speaking about the importance of mental health and the highs and lows of his career, from
school to the Premier League and eventually on to Carlisle United.
Headteacher, Rob Dawson, welcomed guests to the event, which took place for the first time since
2019.
The evening was interspersed with performances of music from the school choir, and dance from
Alston Moor and Eden Dance School.
At Alston Primary School prizes were awarded in various subjects across each year group. The
most notable recipient was Logan Paisley who won a performing arts award for his year group, and
overall award for his contribution to sports across the school. Logan was presented with the trophy
some fifty plus years after his grandfather recipient the award for his contributions to sport.
Nenthead Primary School awarded three prizes for their TED categories. Teamwork, Effort and
Desire make up the TED awards. They were awarded to,,,,
At Samuel King’s School there were subject prizes for the lower year groups, but the Year 11
students of 2024 were the main focus of the presentations.
Scarlett Sotherby and Alfie Cole were presented with the Tony Shields Award for academic
progress. Tony, a former pupil of the school was in attendance to present the prizes in person.
The Silver Salver for outstanding achievement was also won by Alfie Cole, with the Chair of
Governors Award going to Year 10 pupil, Ashleigh Lee.
