County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service launches wholetime firefighter recruitment campaign
Could you be the person someone needs on the worst day of their life?
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) are searching for the next generation of wholetime firefighters, giving people the opportunity to build a career that saves lives, protects communities and changes futures.
No previous firefighting experience is required. Instead, the Service is looking for people with determination, resilience, teamwork and a desire to make a difference.
Successful applicants will complete 15 weeks of intensive training, starting in Spring 2027, before beginning their careers on the frontline.

Wholetime firefighters are highly trained professionals who respond to emergencies including fires, road traffic collisions, water rescues and other incidents, while also helping prevent emergencies through community safety work.
The role is open to anyone aged 18 or over by the start of training. Applicants must be able to travel to fire stations across County Durham and Darlington.
Starting salary is £31,539 during development, rising to £40,358 once fully competent.

The recruitment process includes online verbal, numerical and mechanical reasoning tests, role-related practical assessments, an interview, fitness testing and DBS and reference checks.
