VILLAGERS in Fir Tree have been working very hard over the last two years bringing the village to life with beautiful floral arrangements and have been rewarded for their efforts in an award ceremony help recently.
This is the first year that residents have entered the Northumbria in Bloom competition and they were delighted with what they achieved, including the Best Newcomers award, which was a beautiful glass trophy and £60.
Sonya Bree, the Chairwoman of the Residents’ Association said, “We are so proud of how well our little village has achieved for its first year of entries and although we were told ‘don’t expect to award high on your first year’, we knew that we don’t do things by halves in this village and our team of volunteers have worked so hard making the village look amazing.
The flowers, shrubs, arrangements are certainly head-turners as vehicles drive through its centre on the busy A68, especially those in the area where the war memorial is.

Conservation- area Elliot’s project – Silver Gilt
Memorials – cenotaph GOLD
“We are absolutely chuffed to bits at the awards, added Sonya. “We had a vision and the community came together and look what we have achieved. Thank you so much to all the volunteers that took time out of their day to attend to flowers etc it really did pay off
