A GROUP of ladies from the Dale who gather on Friday evenings to play a game of netball are seeking more members.
Holly Appleby from the town said some ladies do not necessarily have the confidence or the motivation to do activities or workouts alone but appreciate the value of a social team environment.
She added, “We also wanted a competitive sport as this is something which we enjoyed through school and into college/university but there appears to be a current lack of access to team sports in our rural area. We all agree that netball fits the bill.
“But we would have to travel outside our own area to places like Darlington, Bishop Auckland or Consett for netball training and clubs. There are new people who have moved into our area who have joined the group we have formed.”
Our netball group complements the current Durham Dales Sports Club, which includes Walking Netball by offering an alternative evening – some, of course, sometimes find they have other things to do on Friday nights and therefore the group are short on numbers.
“We are a group of all ages and occasionally have the odd man who joins in when we are short of players.” explained Holly.
The group meets on Friday evenings between 7 and 8pm at Wolsingham Sports Hall whenever they have enough players for a match, which is only usually once or twice a month until numbers build. The cost of hiring the hall is £42 and it is divided between how many turn up. People of all ages and abilities – even newcomers – will be most welcome.
If you are interested, send Holly Appleby a message via Facebook or contact the sports hall for more information.
