Dear Editor,
Hi, we were on the steam train last Saturday 4th October, as part of the 200 anniversary, which went from York to Darlington to Shildon and then to Stanhope.
Our progress was considerably slowed down between Shildon and Stanhope because a horse got onto the track and ran for miles ahead of the train. At one point the driver got down and tried to catch the petrified animal but it only bolted away even faster.
I would love to know that the poor horse was eventually found by its owner and driven home! Do you know anything about this event? As the train had steamed north between York and Darlington we had noticed that both sheep and horses fled across their fields, away from the beastly noisy steaming engine, but cows on the whole were unperturbed.
Yours, Mary (via email)
