Treat mum to a Bridgerton-inspired Afternoon Tea at Auckland Palace

Make mum the ‘talk of the ton’ this Mother’s Day with a Bridgerton-inspired Afternoon Tea in Auckland Palace’s charming Old Library, one of Europe’s best-preserved Bishop’s palaces.

Steeped in 1,000 years of history, this magnificent setting was once home to the powerful Prince Bishops of Durham – and now offers the perfect backdrop for a regal celebration.

On Sunday 15 March, mums and their loved ones can indulge in a delicious selection of freshly baked scones, delicate finger sandwiches, and an array of indulgent sweet treats. The experience will be topped off with a glass of prosecco.

The menu includes savoury delights such ham & pease pudding, cheese & palace chutney and cream cheese & cucumber finger sandwiches. Classic treats include a homemade fruit scone served with Tiptree strawberry jam, Rodda’s clotted cream, and seasoned butter.

And to finish there will be sweet indulgences including red berry and pistachio rose, blackcurrant macaron and classic lemon tart.

Set within a space rich in history, the Old Library has transformed over the centuries – from a 16th-century chamber to a servants’ hall and later, a grand library filled with theological books. Today, it welcomes guests for afternoon teas, educational visits, and special events.

Kimberley Carruthers, Head of Hospitality Operations at The Auckland Project, said: “Mother’s Day is a lovely opportunity to slow down and spend time together. With our Bridgerton-inspired Afternoon Tea, we wanted to create something that feels relaxed but special — a chance for mums to feel like the ‘diamond of the season’ while enjoying good food and great company in the unique setting of Auckland Palace. It’s a simple way to make the day feel a little different.”

The experience, exclusively for Mother’s Day, will take place on Sunday, 15 March at 12:30 and 14:30 in the heart of Auckland Palace. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended. Book here: https://tickets.aucklandproject.org/event-tickets/75377?branches.branchID=2536
