Show Classes
Huge thanks go to Steven Kirby of Barstow Hall, Northallerton for undertaking the judging duties in a most professional and expert manner. As always at this event the mix was somewhat eclectic, not conducive to an easy night’s work for the judge however few could deny that a high-quality top end assembled which certainly led to some excellent prize winners. The champion was the winner of class three, any other continental; a beautiful and correct pedigree Blue Texel ewe lamb (Ivanhoe Luna) from James Bailey and Nikki Ramsay’s Ivanhoe Flock based near Thirsk, North Yorkshire. The marvellous February born lamb is no stranger to the show ring; she was one half of the interbreed winning pair at the Lincolnshire County show earlier this year. Sired by Beachalls Great Gatsby and out of a homebred ewe the worthy champion later sold to Georgia Willis of Gilling West for 750 guineas. Reserve champion went to an excellent pedigree Texel lamb from the highly regarded Blackdale Flock of BI & BM Mosey, Gilling East which duly sold for 900 guineas to Jack Sewell of Hamsterley. Winning the native class completed a successful evening for the lambs as a sweet Suffolk from P & K Brannen, Scartop, Penrith took the coveted red rosette, a real shearling maker from the Moorsley flock sired by Redbrae Rocky she sold to Ben Cowton, Low West House, Tow Law for 800 guineas.

Ewetopia Sale

Some night for the females, everything up, a new sale record price and attendance records for both buyers and sellers broken. The most sheep ever offered at this event with 291 head penned. The highest number of buyers at this event saw 79 successful and a huge crowd gathered which also housed many unsuccessful under bidders. Thanks must go to everyone who continue to drive forward Ewetopia, an excellent 94.5% clearance rate was achieved as the 43 vendors brought forward a wide and varied mix of ewes, shearlings and lambs.
A new sale record of 1400 guineas was set by a stunning pedigree Texel shearling from the North Yorkshire based Blackdale Flock of BI & BM Mosey. Not difficult to see why she caught the buyer’s attention with her mouth-watering pedigree, a natural single born in March 25 she is sired by Blackdale Hagrid who goes back to the renowned Sadlerhead fury who himself has bred tups to 42k and 35k; Hagrid also bred this year’s Ryedale show Texel champion. The superstar pace setting shearling also oozes class on her mother’s side, her dam was purchased privately from the Ettrick flock for 7k and is by the 24k New View Electrifying, she was second prize at the Great Yorkshire Show as a lamb. Whilst this shearling hasn’t been shown herself, her maternal sister was the 2nd placed ewe lamb at the Great Yorkshire this year; she now heads across the A66 to join the flock of RJ Davidson, Stainmore.
Next in line at an excellent 1100 guineas was our top lot from the non-accredited section, a very well put together pure Dutch Texel shearling shown by CA & JG Skidmore, Needless Hall Farm, Toronto; this sweet sort was purchased as a lamb from E Thompson, Barnard Castle and sold this evening to Haig Murray, Canonbie. Selling at 1050 guineas was another Dutch Texel shearling, this one a home bred sheep from Harry Askwith of Crook sold to M Radford, Bedale.
P & K Brannen set a storming Suffolk pace with shearlings at 980 and 900 guineas plus four flashy lambs between 600 and 800 guineas. Beltex and Texel claimed a lot of high prices on the night, the marvellous Mosey consignment also sold a 2-shear Texel at 850 guineas and Teward Bros sold Texel shearlings thrice at 800 guineas or more whilst both L Van-Geffen and Mel Whitfield-Stout checked in at 850 guineas with Beltex.
