
Step back in time and discover how Easter was celebrated in the 1820s, early 1900s, 1940s and 1950s at Beamish, The Living Museum of the North.
The County Durham museum will be celebrating with Easter family activities from 3rd to 19th April and enjoying an egg-cellent Easter Weekend, 3rd to 6th April.
Pick up a copy of the Spring Trail and see how many signs of the season you can spot as you make your way around the museum. Plus, in The 1900s Town, you can take part in The Great Bunny Hunt – can you find the patchwork bunnies who have been hidden around the town?
Call into the photographers’ in The 1900s Town and have a special Easter portrait taken so that you can remember your cracking day out (extra charge applies).
Head to The 1900s Pit Village school on Friday, 3rd April to learn about Good Friday.
There’s a whole host of Easter craft activities to enjoy between Saturday, 4th and Monday, 6th April including flower making at 1950s Spain’s Field Farm and Easter basket making in the 1950s welfare hall.
Plus, between Easter Saturday and Easter Monday, get competitive with egg rolling in The 1900s Town park!
See traditional baking demonstrations and food displays across the museum, from salmon fishcakes, fish pie and lamb dinner to simnel cake, hot cross buns and tansy cake.
There’ll also be opportunity to try some delicious Easter treats during your visit including hot cross scones in the Tea Rooms in The 1900s Town as well as hot cross buns and coconut haystack lambs from Herron’s Bakery in The 1900s Town.

“The museum is now open seven days a week, from 10am to 5pm, and we have some great events coming up over the summer season so it’s the perfect time to renew your Beamish Unlimited Pass.”
From beautiful Georgian gardens to Edwardian shopping, delicious fish and chips, exploring The 1940s Farm and getting a fabulous 50s hairstyle, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during a visit to Beamish Museum.
Daytime events are included in museum admission and are free to Beamish Unlimited Pass holders and Friends of Beamish members, pay once and visit free for a year!
