
Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their weekly sale of cast cattle, store and breeding stock on Monday 6th July 2026. Forward were 250 cattle and 27 sheep.

Cast Cattle – Dearer by a fair margin as the cows climbed to average an exceptional 288ppk and £1965. Forget Jude Bellingham, Darlington had its own superstar in town today; an absolutely incredible 919kg 7-year-old British Blue cow from BJ Haigh, Hightown set the ring alight when she sold for a stunning 424ppk and £3896. A terrific 10-year-old British Blonde cow from F & JS Gargett, Westwick Farm impressed when she sold for 356ppk and £2598. DA & MAM Brown, Agglethorpe Hall sold two cracking Charolais cows at £2761 and £2742, GH Farms Ltd, Grange Hill followed with a Charolais at £2731 with a smart Limousin from W & M Knaggs & Son, East Newbiggin next at £2710. Some steam on in the stock bulls too, top per kilo at 350 pence was a British Blonde from T & DI Allen & Son, Chatterley Farm whilst the best in the lump was a fleshy Hereford from SJ Saville & Sons, Ravenhill at £3171. Aberdeen Angus led the native breed charge, best per kilo at 321 pence was a tidy OTM heifer from Agglethorpe Hall whilst the top gross value was an outstanding £2703 for a fleshy girl from TN Callender, Ox Eye Farm. Finally, the Friesian’s, OTM heifers sold to 264ppk and £1500 from AR & C Booth & Sons, Village Farm.

Breeding Cattle – The eagerly awaited reduction of Aberdeen Angus cows and calves from RE Dickson, Stubdale Farm attracted a great deal of ringside interest. The fifteen second calvers with three- and four-month-old calves at foot topped twice at £3550 and came away with a fine average of £2946 per outfit; eight of the fifteen reached £3000 or more. Elsewhere in the breeders a lovely in calf Limousin heifer from J & P Armstrong, Sherburn Tower sold for £3400 whilst her stablemate carrying her second calf sold for £2700.

Store Cattle – A good show of strong stores for the time of year, with some deadweight firms finally offering a price increase the trade looked a good bit sharper across the board, particularly the strong steers. Top of the shop at £2460 were a thumping pair of 26-month-old Aberdeen Angus steers from B Needham, Woolhouse Farm; a remarkable two dozen steers followed the leaders between £2000 and £2330. Top heifer on the day at an excellent £2300 was a strong Limousin from DR Smith, East Roughlea; two more from East Roughlea and three from elsewhere completed the £2000 plus heifer line up. Feeding bulls remain in good order, top at £2280 was a strong lad from PH & CM Smith, Castle House Farm with a great run following closely from MC Robinson & Son, West Cocklaw to a top of £2240.
