Cast Cattle (81) A few more cast cattle forward this week, amongst these only a handful of dairy bred girls. Trade would be just as buoyant, returning a whole market average of 257ppk & £1786 per head. The top price continental cow – selling for 398ppk was a Belgian Blue from D Alderson, Bowl Turner which grossed £3570. Top of the native section ppk was a 26mth Angus Heifer also from D Alderson, Bowl Turner, selling for 300ppk & £2064, while a Hereford from FJ Forrest, Barforth Hall took the lead grossing native honours selling for £2169, a Holstein Friesian Heifer from R&A Chapman, Easby Grange sold for 260ppk & £1814 making it top of the dairy section. Of the 4 Stock Bulls forward, the top slot ppk & lead grossing value went to TW&G Corner, Rye Close, whose Pure Blonde D’Aquitaine sold for 388ppk & £3755.

Store Cattle (186) A nice commercial entry of store cattle, with trade for all types every bit as dear as last week. The Beckwith family from Brough Castle achieved the days top honours for store cattle with a pair of good Blue Heifers perfect to breed from, selling to a top of £2260. AP Taylor, Ox Close Farm was just ahead of MC Robinson, West Cocklaw in the race for the top price store bull, selling for £1990 & £1980 respectively. Steers from WO Grix & Partners sold to £2080 with B Iceton not far behind at £1980.

Store Lambs (775) Store lambs remain a very good trade considering the weather up and down the country still been seen, with plenty of people around the ring looking to purchase both short keep and long keep lambs, a whole sale average today of £111.74 which saw a super show with something on offer for everyone. Top of the day goes to the continentals with a super Texel lamb from B Willis hitting highs of £175, while hard on their tails were a tremendous run of Charollais and Beltex sired lambs from M R Cass at £164 with others to £157. Plenty of short keep lambs regularly trading between the £130-£145 barrier depending how they are bred with the medium keep lambs trading between the £110-£125 mark and the long-term projects regularly trading either side of the £100 barrier depending on size and breed. A first offering of some hill lambs saw Cheviots from S Hallam sell to £91.

Feeding Ewes (165) Again, another grand run of feeding ewes on offer with plenty of demand ringside saw an all in average across the sale of £145.02, this includes the top end continentals and the good straight feeding ewes and some horned ewes. Top goes to AWSM Farms with a Texel X ewe selling away at £238 with others off the same good farm to £200. A super run of ewes from W M Allison & Sons hit highs of £228 and £212 while L F & H C Wood top their run at £192. Plenty more fit continental ewes trading between the £150-£170 bracket with the fittest end of the Mules trading between £140-£160 while feeding ewes would still be trading between £110-£140 for all grades. Fittest hill and horned ewes would top at £118 while the leaner end and feeding sorts would see £50-£70. All grades of sheep can be sold on a Monday to vendor’s advantage. Rearing Calves & Stirks

Calves and stirks are yet again a strong trade, with prices soaring for all breeds, types and ages. Top price stirk today went to GT&M Tweddle, Springwell Farm, with a fantastic Aberdeen Angus bull reaching £1250, whilst the same home had stirks between £930 and £1100, with calves from this home also traded between £700-£1060. A Wilson, Calf Close Farm, also had a fantastic run of calves and stirks, with their top price being £1060. Angus bull calves from G Thompson & Sons, Softley Farm, reached £680, whilst Angus heifers from the same home made £640. British Blue Bull calves from RW Raper & Sons, High Mulberry, topped the Blue section at £660, whilst British Blue heifers reached £620 from W Chapman, Manor Farm. Hereford Heifers from A Wilson, Calf Close Farm, reached £980, whilst Hereford bulls from A Wilson & J Lawrence, Cowclose farm, topped at £760. Simmental Heifers from JT Forster & Son, Killerby Farm, made £630.
