Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their weekly sale of cast cattle, store and breeding stock on Monday 22nd June 2026. Forward were 189 cattle and 54 sheep.

Cast Cattle – More life in the cow trade as the numbers dry naturally during grazing season; some wonderful quality at the top end helped averages rise to 266ppk and an impressive £1927 per head. A stunning Limousin OTM heifer from WI Suddes & Son, South Farm, Cornsay topped the prices per kilo when she sold for 362 pence. Other OTM heifers impressing per kilo included an Aberdeen Angus from R Leiper & Co, Bygate at 340 pence, a Beef Shorthorn from N & A Hunter, Woodlands Hall at 338 pence and a Limousin from SJ Saville & Sons, Ravenhill at 336 pence. Older cows sold on three occasions to 328ppk, two more tremendous Limousin’s from Messrs Suddes, South Farm were joined by a shapely British Blue cross from WM Reed & Sons, Lands Farm. Gross values, despite strong showings from the aforementioned Messrs Saville, Reed and Leiper it was a one, two three in the females for the quality Cornsay consignment of WI Suddes & Son, South Farm at £2830, £2935 and £2988. The best of them at a remarkable 15-years-old weighed a hefty 911kg. Four bulls offered, three Limousin and an Aberdeen Angus and quality very good indeed; top per kilo at 310 pence an 8-year-old Limousin from J & P Armstrong, Sherburn Tower. Two thumping bulls hit high prices in the lump, a 1242kg Aberdeen Angus from R Leiper & Co, Bygate sold for £2980 however way out ahead was a fantastic 1227kg Limousin from DW Humphrey, Capon Hall when he sold for an excellent 306ppk and £3754. Montbeliarde cows led the dairy brigade this week; HM Dent, East Farm sold to £1791 and WK Wilkinson & Sons, Mains House Farm reached 260ppk.

Store Cattle – Store cattle trade sharper on the week with a definite air of optimism amongst the buyers. No doubting the highlights today as a staggeringly good show of feeding bulls attended, credit must go to four vendors in particular with stunning runs of 11–13-month-old Limousin bulls who between them produced fifteen over £2000. The top four hailed from A & D Proctor, Swarland Old Hall; the pick of the Swarland sensations sold for £2440 and their fabulous five averaged £2354. Next in the hot bull line up were WI Suddes & Son, South Farm with a top of £2320 and a trio averaging £2253. Another quality quintet deserves mention next as D Dixon, Middle Heads secured a pen average of £2164 with a top of £2240 whilst the final member of this high flying foursome was MC Robinson & Son, West Cocklaw with a fine run of stretchy sorts topping at £2200. Top of the clean store cattle this week at £2080 was an excellent Aberdeen Angus steer from D & M Scott, Redesmouth Farm; the same good feeding followed at £2060 and £2000 with some smart British Blue steers. Heifer trade peaked at £2040 from JW Richardson, Railway Terrace with a 2-year-old British Blue. Top of the under-year stores was undoubtedly a 10-month-old Charolais steer from ER & GI Younger, High Trewhitt Farm whilst standing out amongst the first dairy crosses were a couple of bucket reared British Blue heifers from DJ Enderby, Codlaw Hill at £1870.

Store Sheep – Still a few sweepings up appear, just four weeks to wait until the store lambs kick off. Top today at £170 was a phenomenally fat Ryeland ewe from Y Kettle, Brydale Farm, store hoggs sold twice to £130 from both D Smith, Crossfields and B Iceton, Broadleys Gate.
