Consett Warriors League Win

March 14th: League game: Washington Utd Yellows v Consett Warriors

Match Report – Jason

Pre-match Talk: Today’s message was about proving a point (hopefully getting 3), and we would need to be at our best as our opponents are a strong team.

Game Time: Back on another grass pitch today with some players trying some new positions. The opposition started really strong and put us under real pressure. A few offsides and Gabriel an absolute rock in goal ensured it remained goalless. We then started to attack the opposition and were awarded with a few corners. The half was frustrating at times as we struggled to put 2-3 passes together.

The opposition then went through on goal a couple more times and went 1v1 with Gabriel. Gabriel was able to stay strong and parried away their shots and held onto the others. Our defence Lewis, Jack, Teddy, Cassius and George held strong to make sure we did not concede. And we went into half time. 0-0. Half time: 0 – 0

Half highlight: Gabriel’s amazing saves when 1v1. There were a few you could pick from. Half Time talk: I told the boys to put their hands on their chest and feel their . Now time to play with some of it.

Second Half: We finally started to play with more energy. We were closing down, stronger in our tackles, we were trying to keep the ball with more passing and good movement. Some changes saw Lucas move into the centre of defence to organise our defensive structure and George into Midfield to use his energy to support our forward line. Our midfield energy and performance certainly got stronger with Oliver, Bradley, Ryan, Jake, Dylan and Elliott, working the ball and pressuring the opposition.

We had an attack down the right and the ball went across the box, (I can’t remember who it fell to) but it struck the crossbar. The oh’s and ah’s from our supporters gave our boys more energy. My heart was literally beating out of my chest as we continued to improve and get closer and closer. Olly up front was making the opposition defence work so hard and he got his rewards.

On around the 60th minute, we won the ball and got it out to the right. Dylan came in side and played a ball through to Olly who headed towards goal, with pressure from behind and he slotted it past the goal keeper. Goal: 0-1, Scored: Olly, Assist: Dylan

The last 5-10 minutes the opposition piled everything on us, they won a corner and had every player in our box. We were able to clear the ball up the pitch and the referee blew the final whistle. GET IN!!

Full time: 0 – 1 Half highlight: It has to be the winning goal from Olly going through onto a pass and slotting it calmly past the keeper.

Final Score: 0 – 1 Team: Gabriel, Jack, Lewis, Cassius, George, Bradley, Ryan, Dylan, Teddy, Jake, Olly, Lucas, Oliver, Elliott Goals: Olly Assists: Dylan MOTM: Gabriel. What a rock solid performance from Gabriel pulling off vital saves and dominating his goal area. Rewarded with a clean sheet.
