The CLA (Country Land and Business Association) has commented on reports of potential food shortages due to global instability.
Country Land and Business Association President Gavin Lane said:
“Global instability can quickly lead to food insecurity at home. But will not be resolved by reversing the progress we have made in modernising farming—quite the opposite.
“We urgently need stronger collaboration between government and industry, focused on building healthy soils, ensuring access to water, securing fuel supplies, and reducing reliance on imported fertilisers. At the same time, the planning system must enable us to scale up food production and develop small-scale renewable energy.
“Farmers have always answered the nation’s call, but the government cannot afford complacency. It must actively prepare for worst-case scenarios, including urgent and constructive engagement with the farming sector.”
