Bishop Auckland Civic Society AGM

THE 2025 Annual General Meeting of Bishop Auckland Civic Society will take place on Monday, 22nd September at 6.30pm at Bishop Auckland Cricket Club on South Church Road (DL14 7JU).

This is a crucial meeting for the Society as Dr. Robert McManners, Chair since the Society’s inception in 1993, will be standing down, and his replacement will be elected at this meeting.

This will be followed at 7.30pm by a public meeting when the Police and Crime Commissioner for Durham County, Joy Allen, will address the Society on ‘The New Police and Crime Bill’. The Commissioner will also discuss  the top five priorities that residents have indicated are of

the most concern and to them.

Joy Allen has been a resident of Bishop Auckland for many years. She was elected Mayor of Bishop Auckland in 2019 and previously served as County Councillor, holding the portfolio for ‘Safer Communities’,  championing democracy to tackle the issues that threaten public safety and undermine community life. Elected as Police Commissioner in 2021 and re-elected in 2024, she has since taken on a series of key national responsibilities to advocate for policing change.
