Match Report by Jason
Consett Warriors v Washington Ath PSG
Pre-match Talk: This was our first game since the beginning of November. We have trained well we just need to play our game and enjoy it.
The first five minutes was a joy to watch. We were moving, passing, receiving, passing again and making some good runs. The smile on my face was huge. We pushed another attack and the ball was with Dylan in the box who then found Zach, who made no mistake putting it away. 1-0 What a start.
After that something happened and we stopped playing our game. Ten minutes after going ahead the opposition number 7 made a dancing run past a number of our players and into the box. He was then brought down and awarded a penalty. Although he went the right way unfortunately, Gabriel just couldn’t reach it and they drew level. 1-1.
Although we were not at our best, we were still creating chances and were trying to make things happen. We will work on our decision-making in certain situations. On the 25th minute, the opposition number 7 again was causing us problems and somehow managed to get past our players and into the box were he slid it past our keeper. 1-2. Half time: 1-2.
Half Time talk: It was time for honesty and to give the boys the responsibility to put things right. We needed to pick up their levels, make better decisions on and off the ball, as well as more energy from midfield, to start playing for each other and get sorted with our movement..
Second Half: We went out with a point to prove and we finally started to pick up. Our energy, our pace and our tenacity had picked up. Shortly after the restart, a darting dribble down the right before putting in a great cross into the box, which was met by Zach who put it home to draw us level. 2-2.
We are back in the game. For the next 10 minutes we continued to play a lot better. We defended well and created more and more chances. Our defence,Cassius, George, Olly HL, Lewis and Jacob had tightened up, making it difficult to break through them. Gabriel had a quieter second half but was ready when needed and pulled off a great stretching save.
Our midfield Elliott, Olly HN, Oliver, Bradley, Dylan, Teddy, Jack, Kailym and Ryan, had been awoken and were really starting to cause a lot of problems for the opposition. They were supporting the defence and creating the attacks. Our attacking line led by Zach was forever dangerous in the second half. Ten minutes after drawing level and very much against the run of play the opposition were awarded a very harsh penalty. Even though I and many others thought it was outside the box. Never mind we deal with it. The opposition stepped up and put it away. 2-3.
The Warriors responded in the right way both on and off the pitch. The boys on the pitch were working their socks off and the boys on the side encouraging them on. Five minutes after going behind, a tricky run from Teddy was finished with a good pass to Zach who went on to bury it in the net. We had come from behind again, and hopefully for the last time. 3-3.
On the 65th minute, we regained a well-deserved lead. In the middle of the park Ryan cleared his area with a longish ball through to Zach who ran on and slotted it past the keeper. 4-3.
70th minute. We were very much in control now and after a box scramble, Olly HN played in Zach who found the bottom corner. 5-3.
