A NEW foot-care service has been founded that covers Weardale and surrounding areas.

Jemma Burgess, a 41-year-old mother of two has long held a passion for podiatry but because of family difficulties, she was late pursuing the career she wanted. Originally from Dagenham in Essex, she discovered the north east after visiting an old friend who had settled in Howden-le-Wear.

“I fell in love with the area,” she said. “And we moved up to the north-east 15 years ago.”

Jemma worked for a short time as a home carer and it was there that she witnessed many issues with foot health. “I saw how important it is to a person’s mobility and independence and my interest in podiatry was born and it quickly turned into a passion.”

She began a Degree course in Podiatry at New College, Durham, which she was forced to abandon due to the ill health of a close relative and the needs of two autistic children. Since then, Jemma has completed the required qualifications to pursue the career she loves and now offers a range of podiatry care as a Foot Health Practitioner in the comfort of your own home.
