THE Weardale Pool League has started another year with Neil Coates, who has composed the reports for over 20 years, passing his pen to Stuart O’Dell. Many thanks, Neil, for keeping the Dale up to date on pool news for so many years. And thanks to Stuart for volunteering for the job.
Week 1
The Grey Bull (A) hosted The Black Lion in a tight game. David Craggs opened the scoring for the home side, followed by an away win from Adam Martin to pull the score level. Chris Woodruff got the home side back in front before wins from Adam Fletcher and Reg Savory gave the Black Lion the lead. Stu Brown won the last singles game for the home side to level the score at 3-3. The Black Lion won 2 out of 3 doubles games to win the match 5-4.
The Grey Bull (B) travelled to The Blue Bell and opened the scoring through Richard James. Derek Iddon pulled the score level for the home side before wins from Jake Crawford, David Sheppard, Chris Henderson, and Jack Tinkler gave the visiting team an advantage. The Blue Bell pulled a point back in the first doubles game through partners Terry Wood and Derek Iddon, however The Grey Bul (B) took the last 2 doubles games to win 7-2 on the night.
Stanhope Club made the short journey to the Pack Horse, and the visitors made a strong startwinning the first 3 singles games through Alan Barker, Shaun Emerson, and Adam Robinson before Dan Wright gained the first point of the evening for The Pack Horse. Further wins for the visitors through Paul Dobson and Gary Stubbs took the score to 5-1 to Stanhope Club. The Pack Horse fought back and won all 3 doubles games resulting in a narrow 5-4 win to Stanhope Cl
