Aliens have landed in Fir Tree!

Weardale Gazette: Trusted source for local news, events, and community updates.

If you are driving on the A68 and pass through Fir Tree, keep an eye out for aliens who descended on the village in their spaceship a few days ago.

They have been joined by Minions, witches, extra large spiders, skeletons as well as Mary Poppins and all manner of other ingenious creations made by villagers.

It is, of course, the annual Scarecrow competition organised by the Fir Tree and Harperley Residents’ Association and folk have spent many hours working on them.  Many people passing through have stopped and parked their cars to take a closer look as the aliens and their stunning spaceship on the corner of the A68 have attracted their attention.

The chief witches in the village have sent out a message to anyone who would like to join them tomorrow: ‘Who’s brave enough to enter past the signs of Fir Tree and be ready for an afternoon of frightful delights tomorrow? Who is busy carving their pumpkins ready for our lantern parade? Who’ll dare enter the wood where you’ll hear the witches cackle and cast spells.

‘Who is brave enough to stay after dark and screech out a haunting tune or two in the Duke of York pub? Don’t forget you never know who’ll be lurking behind you with our stilt walker and characters of the past, a story or two and some potions to be made.

We can’t wait to welcome you all along and all for free except refreshments and items which we’d love for you buy to help support our association fund’.

Who dares resist the wise women of the village?

The fun begins tomorrow at 2:30 pm – everyone welcome.
