Cast Cows & OTM

A smaller, plainer show of cast cows forward, however trade still holds up to see them average 239ppk and £1997. Top price per kilo went to M Shepherd of Fulthorpe farm, with a Limousin cow making 320ppk & £2499. Natives topped at 254ppk & £3434 with a tremendous Angus Bull from F Fabi, Broadlea Farm, whilst Friesians topped at 198ppk & £1584 from CN&P Penk, Pitfield Farm. Many more required for a range of buyers on a weekly basis.

Fewer store cattle forward this week, however trade still buoyant. Top of the tree today was Mark Johnston Racing Ltd, Park Farm with a terrific Angus Steer at £2290 and another at £2210. Angus heifers from B Needham of Woolhouse Farm, reached £2090. E Parsons, Newstead Farm, sold Charollais heifers to top at £2250, with more following between £2170 and £2230. GS Bainbridge of Ketton Lodge sold Limousin Steers to £2160, whilst GP&E Lillie, Forest Farm, sold a Fleckvieh which made £2170. Blue Bulls from JJ Kemp & Son, Elstob Hill Farm, regularly traded between £1780 to top at £1880. Friesian stirks from Luke Turnbull topped at £640.

Store sheep

The days trading kicked off with the feeding ewes which again met a grand trade across the board for all goods forward, plenty of leaner ended ewes mixed amongst the goods this week, which would see a top of £211 for a pair of Texels from N G Beveridge while M & E Burrell saw £188 the better end of the mules and cheviot mules selling to a top of £172 which fit ewes either side of £130. The leaner end of the mules between £90-£105. The best end of the horned ewes would top at £90-£100 while the leaner end would be £40-£60.

A small show of breeders forward this week saw a top of £250 for S Hallam. Store lambs trade seeing a small amount of resistance in it after the prime sections just levelling slightly at the tail end of the week. Top of the store lambs went to Luke Turnbull at £176 with others to £170. The short keep lambs would sell between £125 and £135 depending how they were bred with the medium keep lambs selling between the £115-£120. While the long term projects still look a very good trade selling between £95-£105 mark.

Rearing Calves & Stirks-

A younger show of calves forward today with trade less, showing a sale average of £501, whilst stirks averaged £872. Top priced calf today goes to Kitchings of Summerfield with a cracking Inra95 bull achieving £730, whilst another Inra95 bull from this home made £710. H Gibb & Son, Eachwick Red House, reached £680 with a 30 day old Blue Bull, with heifers of the same age reaching £600. A&S Green, Wheatley Head, sold an Angus bull calf making £600, whilst Camphill Village Trust had an Angus Heifer which made £680. Friesian bulls from J&A Stevenson & Sons, Blue House Farm, reached £330.

Stirks from G Beadle, Primrose Farm, sold Angus Heifers at £830 and achieved up to £900 with Angus Steers.
